“𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗶 𝗠𝗼𝘁” “𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧” “𝗞𝗲𝗱𝗼𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗺” “𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺 [𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴]” 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝟭𝟲:𝟭-𝟮𝟬:𝟮𝟳

Have we lost the art of making 𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩? Now, I know what you are thinking. And this isn't about blood sacrifices, not at the root anyway. It is actually in fact, all about 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. There is so much happening in this weeks portion, that it really is hard to narrow down just one theme to share with you all. In these Chapters from Leviticus, we get to see the beginnings of what would become known as '𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩'. It is the ＯＮＥ day of the year, when the High Priest could enter into the most Holy place, to make atonement for himself and the people.

You see, day after day and year after year people were continually bringing sacrifices - guilt offerings, fellowship offerings, but these were all about the individual bringing them. However, on 𝘠𝘰𝘮 𝘒𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘶𝘳, the 'Day of Atonement', there was something more 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙡 happening. It begins with understanding what atonement was really about. You see, I have always just viewed atonement as a covering - almost like wrapping yourself in a blanket. This way when the LORD looks at you, He only sees the blanket, not the mess it's covering. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴. At it's core, the Hebraic understanding of atonement is about 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. First, we must repent, or turn away from our sin. But then, we are to make amends to those our sin has hurt, and that includes GOD.

Have you ever really thought about how your sin affects Him? Going back to the blanket metaphor I gave earlier, it is important to stress that GOD can see 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 the blanket. Though our sin may not be seen by those around us, He never misses it. I can't even begin to imagine all of the 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 I have caused in my life, and then you multiply that by every single living person from Creation to now, wow. Just wow. Leviticus 16:16 points out how the Temple had to be cleansed, simply because it was abiding in the midst of those who sin, "𝘏𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘴𝘳𝘢𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘴; 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴. " Every sin is a defilement upon the TEMPLE! Friends, WE ARE TO BE HIS TEMPLE!!

And even deeper still, the LORD set this day as a permanent statute. Every year, on this particular day, Israel (and those who joined themselves to Israel), must atone. Lev 16:29-31 says, "“𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂: 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂; 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂; 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘀; 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲. " So how do we view this in light of Christ? Well, we know that He is our High Priest, who by His own blood entered the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Temple, to atone for our sins. In other words, He made a way for our relationship with GOD to be restored. Our sin separated us - Christ is the only way to return to proper covenant/relationship. Hebrews 10:14 says, "𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱." But then verses 15 & 17, "𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘺 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴; 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨, “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 a𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥: 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘔𝘺 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘴 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, a𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮,” 𝘏𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴, “𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦.”

Do you see it? There is an order to things. We repent - atonement is made - the law of GOD (Torah) is then written upon our hearts that we may not sin against Him, and He remembers our sin and lawless deeds no more. Hallaleu-YAH!!

Which leads us into the second portion for this week. An interesting start as it begins with, "“𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝘀𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺, ‘𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘆, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘆. -𝗟𝗲𝘃 𝟭𝟵:𝟮" The LORD, since the beginning of creation has divided - light from dark, clean from unclean, etc. He hasn't changed!!! Chapter 19 begins diving into what it means to 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘣𝘰𝘳 as we are commanded to leave food in the fields for the poor, to not place a stumbling block before the blind, not to curse the deaf, we should not steal, lie, bear vengeance, etc. The LORD is calling His people, to not act as the world acts. A separation. In vs 30, 32 He reminds Israel of things like, "𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆; 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱." ‘𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱; 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱.' It's almost like He is tying together loving our neighbor as part of how we love Him. Ha! 𝗢𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀!!

As I wrap this up with some of the final verses from our reading this week, I encourage you, be reminded once more that we are to be His Temple. Everything He did in the Torah, shows us the way of the New Covenant - every writer of the Bible was a Torah following believer of Yeshua / Christ!! Salvation isn't a one-time thing. Let me explain. We are saved - and continually being saved. Until this world passes away (and His enemies made His footstool) we are being sanctified. We live in a world full of impurities / sin. Sin separates us from GOD (sin is transgression/breaking the Torah 1 John 3:4!). He will not dwell in uncleanness (read Ezekiel). That is why atonement on the Temple was necessary - and 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆. He wants to be in close proximity to His creation - to dwell among and within us. Are we doing what He requires so that He can?

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻; 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗲, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘆; 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲. -Leviticus 20:25-26

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗳 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲?
