This week we get to witness the LORD calling Israel to Himself, and after reminding them of how He brought them out of Egypt, gives them the opportunity to 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩 His invitation to covenant. The one thing that is important to note here is that the LORD already rescued them from slavery, but their choice to 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝘆 would prevent it from happening again. The covenant stipulations weren't a means to 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 on what they were willing to do and what they weren't, it was an 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, so to speak. To be His special possession among all the peoples, the LORD Himself determined how they should walk. Shew, that's good stuff.

Before the LORD even comes down on Mt Sinai, to give the Torah in detail - we see the people respond in vs 8, "𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱, “𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼!” 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱. " Personal thought here: I believe this is how many respond to the 'church's' call to salvation. They don't have a full understanding of what exactly they are agreeing to but are quick to wholeheartedly respond with 'I will do it!'. Sure, we all like the sound of a 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 - the One who can free us from our 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦, yet we have never really understood what our 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘦 truly is. We throw out the word 𝘴𝘪𝘯 as a blanket statement - but we have lost the 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 of how GOD defines sin. A verse I have learned to really focus on, is Romans 7:7. Paul explicitly says, 'Without the law [Torah] I would not know what sin is'. Think on those things for a few moments, then let's continue.

I don't know about you, but just hearing those words puts a bit of fear in my heart. Do we truly, truly grasp the 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 of our GOD in comparison to our 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀? The LORD who wants so much to draw near to us, has to place a boundary in order to 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦. Death and Life are not compatible with one another. Sin introduces death. The whole process of the people consecrating themselves and washing their garments was so they He could come near - down on the Mountain, that they may 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 Him. As I have been trying to study more about the 'why's' of the Temple and sacrifices [and why they will be reinstituted in the milleniel reign on earth as told by Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Zachariah], it has become abundantly clear that the sacrifices weren't about 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 at all. They were actually all about 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲. 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱. (Lev 17:11) It was a way to enable us to draw near to our Father, in our fallen state, without being killed ourselves. That is why in the milleniel Kingdom it will be necessary again as the LORD comes to live among us once more. Remember, Yeshua's (Christs') words, that not one jot or tittle of the Torah would pass away until the 𝗡𝗘𝗪 heaven and 𝗡𝗘𝗪 earth, which won't happen until 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 the millennial reign! Which means, even though Christ came to free us from our sin (death), we must choose to 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝘆 to the commands of GOD [Torah], to remain in covenant and not go back into bondage to our sin, leading to death!!! 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗜𝗦 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘!!!! John 10:10 tells us, "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆; 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆." Just like Israel in our story today!! Wow, what a beautiful revelation!! Shew!

The LORD then begins to deliver the first of His commandments - the 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀. One commentator noted that we are taught, 'out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks', and when you think about that as the LORD delivered 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 it really changes your whole perspective. These 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 were not just willy nilly to-do's - 𝗡𝗢 - they were the very 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 of the Father for 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘. When I think of all the times I myself have said [and heard it said from a pulpit a time or two] that these 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 were about punishment or judgement - or about standards which GOD knew we couldn't live up to, it breaks my 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁. How did I miss it for so long? The absolute 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 of 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 and the very 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 they bring. LORD, forgive me!

Friends, I want to finish with Ex 19:18-20 today.

𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨; 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘪𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦. Oh how I pray for the 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋 to return to 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘 like never before. I pray for an awakening so great within our hearts that the whole earth trembles as we return back to 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧. Oh what a glorious day that will be, when we are fully able to understand the weight of our sin and the death it brings - contrasted with the gift of 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 that is so freely offered for life! Oh friends, there is a day coming when the 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 will enter the wedding banquet to be united to her LORD - and the door will be shut, forever. We must 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻 the day and the hour we are in. Let it start today - and what better day than the Sabbath Day, 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 for a day of rest. A picture of what is to come. May the eyes of our understanding be opened wider than ever before, to hear what the LORD is saying. To Him belongs the glory, forever and ever, Amen!
